Our Principal

Mrs Marianne Wessels
Principal since 2015

What a privilege and honour it is to be part of this wonderful school, Kenton-on-Sea Primary. Our school is a relatively small school on a hill-top above the sounding seas. Being a small school has many advantages such as knowing the learners intimately and being able to relate to each individual learner’s needs. We endeavour to build and develop a creative-thinking learning environment to produce learners who will be able to meet the challenges of an ever- changing world.

Currently there are 210 learners from grade R to grade 7. We are a dual medium (English and Afrikaans), co-educational school which also offers a variety of sport and cultural activities.

Principal

Our academic aim is to encourage and motivate all learners to READ as much as possible, as reading and vocabulary are keys to success in education and the foundation of all subjects. We embarked on a reading program, Readers are Leaders to assist us in our goal. We also put tremendous effort into Mathematics by offering extra classes to help extend our learners.

Here at Kenton School teachers and parents work together to give all the children the necessary support to reach their potential. We have an open door policy whereby we discuss and understand different perceptions and opinions. We believe in developing our learners holistically and we encourage them to participate in all that they can and to always give of their best.

We encourage our learners to strive for a balanced life and to participate in as many sport and cultural activities as possible – most importantly, to enjoy life – “A healthy mind in a healthy body.” Here we build our learners academically, socially and emotionally; encourage them to attain a good balance; develop a positive self-esteem; uphold good morals and values and have respect and love for adults and their fellow learners. We try to create a happy environment where the learners can feel safe, motivated, enthusiastic and ready to excel.

Our community is very involved and supportive, for which we are extremely grateful, and does not hesitate to assist us with our much-needed fundraising projects which enable us to keep our school fees affordable.

It is our job as educators to open new worlds for the children – whether it is to discover the wonders of science, the thrill of competition or the achievement of a challenge overcome- there is no task greater than preparing our children for a world yet to become a reality.

My prayer for our school is that it will grow from strength to strength, meet and excel in all targets set and that our children will always remain our first priority. Our aim is to build confident learners who are motivated to live up to our school’s motto: Reperi, Investiga, Supera: Discover, Explore and Conquer all challenges in life and to become the best that they can be.

I would like to end with a quote by Robert John Meehan: “We are not just teachers, we are the managers of the world’s greatest resource : Children!”

Come and experience the family community of Kenton – a place where you’ll definitely want your child to be.
